Le dossier ... Sans doute l'étape la plus longe et pénible à faire. Il faut répondre à beaucoup de question et rempli un tas de papiers, mais c'est l'étape qui nous permet d'avoir la famille d'accueil qui nous correspond le mieux.
The file ... Maybe the the longest and the most difficult step to do. There are a lot of questions to answer and many papers to fill in, but this step guarantees us to have a host family that fits us the best.
Tout d'abord, il y a une partie du dossier à remplir sur une plate-forme informatique. J'ai donné toutes les informations concernant mon identité et celle de mes parents, si j'avais des frères et sœurs et qui contacter en cas d'urgence. On m'a ensuite demandé mes centres d'intérêts et mes habitudes, et où j'en étais de mes études. Ensuite, j'ai dû répondre à un questionnaire assez poussé sur moi, ma famille, sur mes activités, sur mes attentes par rapport à mon échange. Après ça, j'ai écrit une lettre de présentation, destinée à mes potentielles famille d'accueil*, dans laquelle j'expliquais aussi ma motivation et mes attentes. Mes parents ont également écrit une lettre pour me présenter.
L'autre partie du dossier est un dossier papier. Il y a plein de fiches à imprimer depuis la plateforme internet et à compléter. J'ai renseigné mes bulletins scolaires des trois dernières années. Il me fallait également une lettre de recommendation de ma prof' d'anglais, et éventuellement d'un autre prof' (j'ai demandé à mon prof' principal). Il faut également signer et approuver tout le règlement et les conditions du programme d'échange. L'étape la plus terrible de ce dossier, à mon avis, c'est les papiers qu'il faut faire remplir par le médecin (taille, poids, vue, allergies, régime spécifique ...). En fait, le plus compliqué, c'est les vaccins car il y en a beaucoup à fournir. La plupart, je les avais déjà fait mais il m'en manquait 4 à faire, et il a été difficile de s'en procurer un, mais j'y suis arrivée !
Une fois le dossier fini, il est envoyé à un organisme américain partenaire qui va se charger de trouver une famille et un lycée à l'étudiant d'échange. Et ainsi débute l'attente de la destination exacte où je passerai 10 mois**. 🙊
* Les familles d'accueil choisissent l'étudiant d'échange qu'elles veulent accueillir. Les 2 lettres de présentation ainsi que toutes les informations remplies dans le dossier leur permettent de choisir d'héberger ou non l'étudiant d'échange en question.
** J'ai choisi le programme "High School" classique, je peux choisir seulement le pays où je veux aller, mais pas la ville ou l'état. Les étudiants d'échange qui choisissent le programme "High School" FLEX peuvent choisir la ville où ils veulent aller (mais le programme FLEX est plus cher).
First of all, half of the file needs to be completed on an online platform. I gave the informations about my identity and also my parents' one, if I had siblings and who to notify in case of emergency. I've also been asked about my centers of interest, my habits and about my studies. Then, I had to answer a very precise questionnaire about me, my family, my hobbies and my expectations during the program. After that, I wrote a presentation letter, meant for my potential host families*, in which I also explained my motivation and my expectations. My parents also wrote a presentation letter about me.
The other half of the file is a paper file. There are a lot of fact sheets to print, from the online platform, and to fill. I gave my school transcript from the last 3 years. I also needed a recommendation from my English teacher, and from another teacher if I wanted to (I asked my headteacher). I had to sign and approve the program's entire rule book and conditions. The worst part of this file, to me, are the sheets that need to be filled by the general practitioner (height, weight, vision, allergies, special diet ...). Actually, the most complicated thing is the vaccines because there are several to be done. I had done most of them but 4 were missing, and it has been difficult to get one of them, but I finally got it !
Once the file done, it's sent to a partner American organism which is gonna be in charge to find a family and a high school for the exchange student. And there starts the waiting of the exact destination where I will spend 10 months**. 🙊
* The host families choose the exchange student they wanna welcome. Both presentation letters and all of the informations given in the file enable them to whether choose to welcome the exchange student or not.
** I chose the classic "High School" program, I can only choose the country where I wanna go but I can't choose the state or the city. The exchange students who choose le FLEX "High School" program can choose the city were they wanna go (but the FLEX program is more expensive).
